Challenge

Travel across the UK’s four nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) and show how mental health professionals support service users, by interviewing both groups. Create assets (video and photography) that Mental Health UK can use to show the diversity of their experience and coverage across the UK. The stories collected will show some of the expertise available and encourage service users that help is available to them.

Insight

Through our initial research, we were told that talking about mental health had been a taboo, and still is in some communities and environments. We knew we were going to meet people all across the UK with a myriad of mental health challenges or conditions, that we needed to talk with and discuss on film. It was going to be important to work with mental health professionals in constructing questions and scenarios that our contributors would feel comfortable and confident to share their stories.

Solution

We worked with Mental Health UK and their regional partners to select a range of challenges faced by service users and how professionals helped them. These experiences included; schizophrenia, postnatal depression and anxiety. In order to create case studies on both the professionals and the service users, as well as an amalgamated video to encompass the project ,we created 26 films for Mental Health UK. These were optimised for social so they can be shared online to get the widest distribution and outreach for anyone interested in seeking support.
