The Best Charity Fundraising Platforms Online

Fighting for a good cause isn’t as easy as it seems.

While people may seem to share an affinity towards supporting certain ideas, opposing or competing parties, higher donor expectations, the decline in charitable sentiments, a distrust of non-profit organizations and lack of funding can set back any humanitarian movement.

The good news is that the emergence of charity fundraising platforms and initiatives by other channels -social media networks, online markets and even small business sites- help promote such causes.

However, despite these numerous options, one may experience a backlash if promoting too much or too less in one area. The key is to establish one’s cause one at a time and to the right audience on the right platform.

This brings us to our next concern. Which Online fundraising platforms can we trust to bring us the best results?

Deciding Factors to Charity Fundraising Platforms

When it comes to raising funding for Charity, you need to consider costs. While many platforms are now available on the market, you have to examine which sites charge less for the best features.

After all, you’d like most, if not all, of  the money to go towards your cause.

Additionally, it would be best to work with a platform that not only works towards promoting your charity to a wide audience but keeps viewers or potential donors within the same page rather than rerouting them somewhere else.

Though some may hold no suspicion towards this, many remain doubtful of non-profit movements as such hold no monetary gain for the individuals involved and there is not much transparency in such programs.

That said, here are a few of the best platforms to post or share your charitable movements on.

No Processing Fees, No Service Fees Platforms

Before we look into the best rates, let’s take a look at the charity platforms you can align yourselves with for free. These sites not only waive all charges - processing and service fees- but they like other promoters also provide a Gift Aid to organizations hosting charity events or programs on their platform.

Though a recently introduced feature on the popular social media platform, Facebook fundraising has become one of the biggest promoters of welfare programs across the globe.

In it funds can be transmitted though Facebook Payments or through PayPal Giving Fund. Once completed the donations will be sent to the creators personal current account through Stipe, Facebook’s fundraising payment processor.

This Fundraising platform focuses on smaller charities across the UK and promotes them through social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Vimeo.

The reasoning behind their cause is that smaller charities make up 95% of the sector and yet larger charities get the most funding(up to 90%). As such smaller movements no matter how good the cause end up on the backburner and struggle meeting their targets.

To level the playing field even further, the platform promotes the idea of Businesses running a Match-funding scheme to encourage their employees to make a donation. With it, businesses that align themselves with a cause can easily triple donations per transaction.

Additionally, Givey gives organization an extra boost by providing free marketing support for events.

This platform is non-profit that brings projects requiring funding to those with grants via a transparent automated matching with corporate foundations, business and philanthropic individuals. This way, each project can receive public donations.

To sign up, organizations simply need to complete a single online form which will be reviewed by the platform prior to publishing. Once approved projects will be shortlisted for funding and matched with organizations based on their specific grant-giving criteria

This has worked well for many and to date over 1,500 charities are registered on the platform. It has also accumulated an estimated £12 Billion for charity.

This is one of the most cost-effective alternatives in posting or promoting a charity event online. It’s completely free for fundraisers, charitable organizations, and to donors.

In addition to that, Wonderful uses a Pay by Bank for all donations. This makes the entire process fast, simple and secure.

Organizations with a Wordpress account can add the Wordpress Fundraising plugin so they can easily create a donation page that allows them to keep track of donors and offer products or services for a charitable cause.

This allows users the flexibility to create multiple donation pages at a time and set up the payment methods convenient to them.

While no charges are taken out of the donation itself, WP does however, charge an annual fee for the use of the platform itself for $240 minimum. For movements or organizations with long-term charity events or multiple charities, this is definitely a cost-efficient method of promoting their cause.

Though not its own platform, Enthuse is able to significantly increase donations that charities receive. They do this by allowing charities to run their own fundraising platform on their own website or hosted website.

This allows charities to create more customizable fundraising pages, complete branding autonomy and a more direct relationship with their supporters.

Depending on where you post your charity program, you may need to pay some extra fees along with the amount Enthuse charges for using their fundraising technology.

On the bright side, this personalization makes it better for organizations to connect with their supporters and promote to the right audience. Additionally, Enthuse has also enabled the option for donors to cover a portion of the transaction fee if they’d like.

BOPP - 0.5% processing fee per transaction (after first £5000 raised)

Even during its launch in 2021, BOPP has remained true to its rule of making it easy for charities to receive payments instantly, with no chargebacks and no card fees.

Though they do not have an application process either. To make it easier for charities to sign up they’ve made it so all they need to do is register on  a monthly or Pay As You Go Basis account.

Once done, the platform will provide them with a QR code which supporters, patrons, even acquaintances can scan to process a payment or donation. If a non-profit decides to sell merchandise in a charitable event, they can print out their QR codes and stock them in easily scannable places.

Apart from these codes, there is also the option of sending out a remote payment link via email and messenger instead.

Overall, BOPP accounts are easy to set up and friendly to both users and potential donors. If purchased through Charity Digital, organizations can receive a 10% discount on the platform's monthly Value Bundle with no fees on the first £5000 raised.

Exceeding which, charities will be charged 0.5% per transaction excluding VAT, up to a maximum of 50p, consistent with BOPP’s Pay As You Go rate.
