The Best Tech Websites of Last Year

The Best Tech Websites of Last Year

Companies invest a significant amount of time and money into website design when they decide to go digital. In fact, it is estimated that 70% of the companies around the globe do it in aims to differentiate themselves from other businesses in their industry.

The tricky thing about it however, is that you have to stand out while still conforming to some standard and thus blurring the line between bad and good Web Design.

So, what makes a website thrive?

While we could argue that one design is better than another, it all boils down to perspective - user engagement and preferences. This makes it rather hard to decide what we can and cannot do to make our website stand out.

And yet, some managed to pull it off and make their website the ‘Best of 2022’, at least.

We’re focusing on design here, not ethics. Some of the companies listed below are susceptible to challenges on their ethics. With that caveat, let's see what we can learn from them regarding design.

That said, let’s take a peek into what made these websites better than the rest.

Sonos

Nothing has captured the essence of web design better than Sonos. It’s smart, intuitive, and captivating. That said, not only does the site understand and highlight its product in the best way possible but it also understands its audience and how exactly to connect them both.

Sonos is a renowned wireless sound systems provider. Though they sell minimalistic speakers their website albeit simple strategically incorporates emotion-evoking animation and imagery that make users believe their products can bring more value to their lives.

Simply put, Sonos is a visually-driven yet clean website that invests in creating product-focused imagery and the buyer journey.

Tesla

We all know how Tesla cars can sell themselves, but their brand and website does not disappoint. In fact, the bold, intuitive and highly engaging design of the Tesla site excites and radiates innovation - something the brand is mainly focused on selling.

While showcasing information that consumers need to see, they take users through every feature of the different Tesla units. In addition to that, there are numerous interactive areas of the website that while enjoyable also give out key information to consumers such as their “find us” page.

Apple

Apple’s website, like their brand, is clean, product-focused and avant-garde. Though most of the design is made up of images these easily showcase the excellence of their products and brand.

Everything about their site is clean and crisp, including their minimal menu bar. And though we all know Apple is one of the leading tech brands in smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, computers and more, the brand boasts the idea that their products speak for themselves by adding as little words as possible.

Amazon

As one of the biggest powerhouse retailers, it’s no surprise that Amazon would be in the list of the best websites across the globe.

Though there are numerous other online marketplaces, Amazon is by far the easiest eCommerce site to navigate. Their site makes use of an open-nature layout, grid structure and thorough categorical breakdown.

That said, despite the range of products they feature, Amazon has a clear organisational structure that makes it easy for users to identify and find their needs.

In addition to that, the website makes use of bright colours, vivid images and subtle yet hold CTAs that turn the wandering consumer into a purchasing customer.

BMW

You’d think that it would be easy for a car dealer to top the list of websites since they don’t need much content but that’s where most people get it wrong.

Visually-driven websites can easily leave a bad impression on viewers, however, BMW, just like Sonos makes good use of videos that autoplay, images that glide, and seamless navigation to captivate and make consumers feel as if they too are experiencing what it’s like to be in a BMW.

On top of that, the web structure is organised and fun to explore. With bold, clear typography overlaid over images and videos, BMW makes it easier for users to get the aspect of the website they are searching for.

Like all the other websites on the list, BMW also features interactive features like their “Build Your Own” page which allows consumers to customise their own BMW, view the exterior and get a quotation of each model.
