The Journey to BCorp

It was great to be asked to be part of the ‘Bristol24/7 Presents’ series last week to discuss Tusko’s journey to become a BCorporation (BCorp).

For anyone scratching their heads over what a BCorp is (the first time we heard the term it sounded futuristic and a bit Sci-Fi to us!), here is a definition from the BCorp website.

Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.’

For those of you who missed the event, Tusko’s Jake Smith (CEO) and Dan Grixti (COO) discussed the company’s work towards becoming a more sustainable business. The lockdowns of 2020 accelerated the organisation's plans to become carbon neutral (and perhaps even negative). The team set themselves innovation targets to meet customers’ demands while being more environmentally conscious. You can find out more about these innovations here.

Tusko has been using the BCorp Impact Assessment tool to answer questions covering Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The tool has helped to highlight where Tusko needs to improve to be accredited with BCorp standard.

Certification is awarded to organisations who have reached the set-out standard by BCorp’s website: BCorp’s are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Tusko hopes to gain certification as soon as possible! We will keep you up to date on our journey.

Before you go!

During the first lockdown this year Tusko created a free guide called Top 5 Freebies for Charities and NonProfits’, which covers website, branding and video creation.

This guide will help to keep creating content and telling stories as the world continues to work out how it is going to cope with COVID-19. If you are a charity, nonprofit, social enterprise, or socially conscious organisation we’d recommend downloading the guide so you can pass on the tips we’ve shared in this guide. Find the guide here.
